No carer in crisis, isolated or struggling alone

In January 2023 the data on health, disability and unpaid care from the 2021 Census was released. There are over 150,000 self-declared unpaid carers aged five years and over across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk.

Over 45,000 are providing over 50 hours of unpaid care each week. This equates to an economic contribution of £4.8bn each year. The national figure is £162bn, roughly equivalent to annual NHS spending.

Caring Together’s purpose and vision is a world where there is ‘no carer in crisis, isolated or struggling alone’.

They endeavour to hit five big goals during this strategy period:

  • To reach more unpaid carers
  • To take action locally to ensure unpaid carers are valued and recognised
  • Increasing our capacity to do more
  • Raising awareness of who we are and how we can help
  • Building strong foundations

Their values shape how they work to achieve these aims, and also guide day to day and longer term decisions:

  • We are inclusive we put people first
  • We are informed we are knowledgeable and consistent
  • We are effective we aim for the greatest positive impact for carers
